Ticket to the moon

Here's an article written by one of our writing class students to be included in a brochure advertising moon travel:

Dawn breaks over the lunar landscape, radiant coppery rays of sunlight pierce the darkness to illuminate a beautiful monochrome landscape, filled with deep, dark craters, reflecting off the coarse lunar dust to reveal shadowy figures.  Bulbous gold-coloured domes mask their identities, all of them wearing the same stark white spacesuit, like some kind of sinister -------

Wait, we’re talking about astronauts aren’t we?… Well, anyways, blah blah blah, more epic spooky stuff, let’s get to the point. You can be one of those astronauts. And, I know what you’re thinking: “But random brochure guy, I’m just an average Joe!  I’m not qualified for space!”  Well, with our moon-training programme, you can be! In just three weeks, you’ll be ready to go to the moon!  Experience zero-gravity!  Play space golf! How about leaving footprints that won’t erode?  Or maybe jump twice your normal jumping height?

One-syllable writing

This is harder than you think - to produce an interesting piece of writing with words of one syllable only, You should try it yourself!  I think this is a particularly effective piece of one-syllable writing :-)

He screamed, woke up from his bed and made his way to the door.  His heart raced as sweat rolled down from his head to his chin.  He was scared.  He was scared, and so he cried.  All his past thoughts flashed through his mind, and the pain made him fall on the floor.  He did not sleep at all cuz he could not do so, he would be dragged back to what he claims is hell once again.

Friends

And some thoughts on friends, also from our LS2 students....

Dramatic events

Our LS2 students were asked to write articles that might be used in a magazine or a newspaper.  They were given 3 topics to choose from, and here are the results of their hard work. I'm pretty impressed with their use of adjectives and adverbs as well as their sentence structures - just right for reporting news!  There are lots more to follow from LS2 students, so watch this space....
